Enemy 3pts. The Get of Fenris aren’t the forgiving sort, and I mauled and humiliated one in front of his/her pack. And Gaia only knows who/what else I’ve managed to piss off.
No Partial Transformation 1pt. I’m incapable of only changing part of my body (ex: no crinos paws while in homid, etc.) I can only take on complete forms (homid, glabro, crinos, hispo, lupus).
Early 20’s. 5’10", 220 lbs. Caucasian. Light brown hair kept short (but not buzzed). Hazel eyes. Could blend in anywhere in the Midwest. Favors comfortable, practical clothes in human form (t-shirts, jeans, good hiking boots, the occasional hoodie). Other than having just a bit more muscle than a similarly sized human, Jared is unremarkable. People are always underestimating him. Between his peaceful demeanor, average features and nondescript clothing, people just don’t peg him as a threat. In his wolf forms, Jared carries the salt and pepper features associated with the average timber wolf.
Going through the First Change was the single best thing that ever happened to Jared Hall. Before that, he was lost, conflicted and directionless. It’s all a blur that he tries not to think about. His first change is equally blurry. He finally lost his cool, things went bad, and he woke up naked, covered in blood and with some weirdo claiming to be a werewolf standing over him. Since the change, he’s thrown himself into the life completely. This is all that matters now.
Jared earned his deed name, Last Chance, shortly after arrival at his first Sept. There was a pack of Get whose newest member had undergone the change only a month or so ahead of Jared. Cocky and looking to prove himself, he tried to start a fight with Jared. When Jared refused to respond, he just began smacking him around. Jared got up more slowly each time. The Get pack thought it was because of his injuries. Only Jared knew the real reason, that each beating made it harder to restrain his temper. When Jared rose for the last time, his nose and teeth were broken and his blood flowed down his face and watered the earth. Then he said his first words to his attacker: “This is your last chance to walk away.” After a moment or two of surprise and some reassuring glances from his friends, the bully attacked again. Before his next blow could land, Jared shifted to Lupus form and pounced, mauling the surprised little shit to within an inch of his life.
After the incident, Jared was assigned to the care and teaching of Storm Wind, a lupus Ahroun from his own tribe. After witnessing the altercation and tending to the unconscious Get’s wounds, Storm Wind requested the responsibility of helping the new cub find his place. She began by taking Jared out into the country surrounding the Sept and requiring him to live as a wolf. After Jared began to see that beauty and viciousness were equal, blended parts of a harmonious life, his mentor slowly required him to spend increasing amounts of time in his breed form, transitioning the outlook he’d gained as a wolf back into a human context.
Once his mentor gave him a strong foundation to keep his sanity from being ripped in opposite directions, the real work began. He learned fighting and healing in almost equal measure. Well, maybe a little more fighting, but still. He saw the ways that the healing knowledge could be used to more effectively kill an enemy, and the ways that killing knowledge could be used to more effectively heal the same.
Being a full moon in the peacemaker tribe is damn hard sometimes. It’s not about being torn or conflicted. It’s not about being half and half. Every fiber of your being wants to love and heal. And every fiber of your being wants to hate and kill. All at the same time. The Children get it more than the rest, and the ones like Storm Wind understand completely. Jared is grateful to them, and grateful to Gaia for this new life she’s given him. It’s beautiful and terrible and he wouldn’t trade a single moment of it for anything that came before.
